I had my two huskies stolen by, Pablo Palomo, from my yard, with tags on them, and they were micro chipped, but the Dallas police could not make the thief give back my dogs or tell me who he gave them to. Now we have a law so creeps like Pablo can't get away with stealing our dogs.

Reuniting Stray Dogs with Their Owner

Any person who takes possession or control of a stray dog within the corporate limits of the City of Dallas, shall make a reasonable effort to locate the owner of the dog, by taking the dog to a licensed veterinarian's office or the animal shelter, or calling 311 for the shelter to come out to check for any owner identification such as a microchip implant or tattoo, within 72 hours or could be fine $500.00 by the request of the owner of the dog.

You can keep or find a good home for the dog after you try to find the owner.

Any person can still rescue any stray dog and find the dog a good home as before, as long as the person checks for ID chip on the dog. This law is for the times when a person takes possession of a dog, loose or not, with ID, and does not return the dog to it's owner.
